Memorial quilts are quilts that are created as a way to honour and remember loved ones who have passed away. These quilts often include photos, fabric scraps, and other mementos that hold special significance to the remembered person. They can be made by family members, friends, or even professional quilters and are a way to celebrate the life and legacy of the person who has passed. Memorial quilts can be displayed in a home, at a funeral or memorial service, or donated to charity as a way to keep the memory of a loved one alive.
Memorial quilts may also be called bereavement quilts and we can add a saying, quote or other text to personalize the quilt.
Example: If you want a special note on the quilt such as “In Loving Memory of Dad”, we can add this to the back or front of your quilt. These quilts are a wonderful way to never forget those special memories you cherish so dearly.
Another example of a Memorial Quilt would be an unfinished quilt. A loved one, perhaps your mother or grandmother started a quilt and passed away before she had a chance to complete it.
We will attach a backing by machine with *free motion quilting and bind it with a coordinating fabric you provide if needed. The example quilt in the picture is a rag quilt and didn’t need a binding.
* free motion quilting design adds a real quilting look to your quilt. Other companies just sew straight lines to attach the backing, but at QuiltsForKeepsake.com we want your quilt to look amazing! ….how else will you get all those oohs and aahs 🙂
Also, quilting through your quilt is much better because it will stabilize the quilt. If we just straight stitching around the blocks of the items the quilt may lose its form and look baggy.
How much does it cost?
See the Keepsake Quilt Prices Page for details on sizes & cost. We offer a variety of sizes and upgrades to make your quilt a special Forever Memory.
